Angelina Jolie Is Officially Coming Back to This Career Path After Three Years

In case you need a reminder, Angelina Jolie is a talented multi-hyphenate. She’s a filmmaker, Tony-award-winning producer, writer, and humanitarian; and, oh yeah, an Oscar-winning actress.

She’s had over 60 acting credits since she came onto the scene in 1982, but she hasn’t acted in anything since starring in the 2021 Marvel film The Eternals; until now.

When you check out her IMDb, you can see four acting credits in the upcoming category. While three out of the four are currently in pre-production, and have no date set for release yet, there is one coming out this year, and it’ll mark Jolie’s return to acting in three years. The film in question has her starring as opera singer Maria Callas in the upcoming film Maria.

The film is rumored to be released this fall, and Jolie is preparing for her to be back in the spotlight as a leading lady.

“Angie is in a weird spot right now as she gets ready to roll out her Maria Callas movie this fall,” an insider said to InTouch Weekly. “She’s trying to lay low while staying connected to the movie business in Los Angeles and letting people know that she’s in the Oscar race this year without appearing too cocky or arrogant.”

They added that the film “tells the tumultuous, beautiful, and tragic story of the life of the world’s greatest opera singer, relived and re-imagined during her final days in 1970’s Paris.”

And as the insider said, this not only marks her return to leading roles, but potentially in the Oscar race.

Jolie has been nominated for two Oscars since 2000. She won in 2000 for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her role in Girl, Interrupted, and was nominated in 2009 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in Changeling. She also won the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 2014 at the Oscars.
